O Christmas Tree

We finally put up our Christmas tree this past weekend.  Normally, we’d have the whole house decorated by now, since we’d normally be hosting our Sunday School class Christmas party.  But this year, after a 55 person Halloween party and a 28 person Thanksgiving dinner at our house, we decided to take a year off of hosting the Christmas party.

One side effect of not hosting is a certain lack of urgency to get the house completely decorated.  It’s actually been a nice change of pace.  We decided that the 9-10 foot tree wasn’t really necessary.  The normally ubiquitous lights, garlands and knick-knacks are, for the most part, conspicuously absent.

And finally, we let the kids decorate the tree.

Now, this was quite a moment for K.  She is fairly particular about how things get decorated.  While I definitely have opinions about most decorations, I smartly step out of the way when it comes to Christmas.  So you can imagine what restraint it took for K to open the boxes of ornaments and let the kids have free reign.

The destruction decorating begins

Hmmm.  I wonder why only the bottom is being decorated?

Currier & Ives has nothing on singing, decorating 4 year old twins.

Although I’m not sure where that
“We don’t have time to go to church” line came from.

Being a Disney World afficiando, we don’t have a train around the tree.

The end result.

OK, K helped a bit.

I’m reading blogs and biting my tongue while I oversee the decoration of our own tree.

    Let it go.

    Just let it go.

I can always rearrange later, right?

Decorating with singing and a ballet skirt…what more do you need. What do you expect; the bottom of the tree is going to get done fast. They need a step-ladder…yeah, sure. Make up the words to the song as he goes. No church…..for anybody. Wait until January 1….ha….but you get a holiday your first day on the job. What a deal.
