The day before

Being good at something and being enthusiastic about helping can be a dangerous combination.  Take K’s all-around craftiness.  What started as “Sure, I like arranging flowers” has blossomed (ha!) into her being the Chairwoman of our church Flower Committee.  It also has led to her volunteering approximately 1,358 hours a year to a local charity that holds a black-tie, 350-person, fund-raising banquet this time every year.  Again, what started as “I can help set up” has progressed thusly:

– 2 years ago: being asked an opinion on one decoration
– Last year: being responsible for all the table centerpieces
– This year, being responsible for all the decorations.

Therefore, our dining room has looked like this for the past several months:

Yes, it’s a Caribbean theme

We have single-handedly kept Michaels in business.

So Saturday night is D-Day.  We’re both off work today in order to transport several truckloads of stuff to the venue.  Then we’ll spend most of tomorrow setting up.

On the positive side, we do get to play dress-up and eat a pretty good meal.  Unfortunately, all the decorations have to be taken down and removed after the banquet.

At 11:30PM.

Red-Five, we’re going in.

See, that’s why I’m not good at stuff and don’t try to be better.

As K the manager knows, that’s what happens when you miss a meeting….you get elected to be President of the HOA or you get put in charge of something. 🙂
